A client is a piece of software that accessing information on another computer, often a server, and makes that information available on the user's computer.

An example of a client is an email application like Outlook or Thunderbird. The client is an application installed on your local computer (the one on your desk, or lap) and it fetches your email from where it is stored on a server. You can then read and send emails using the client.

Other clients exist for services such as Twitter - for example, TweetDeck.

Sometimes a computer is referred to as a client, but it is still doing the same thing: connecting to another computer to access information.
